Kate achieved her goal of opening her own bakery

Kate had worked at a successful bakery in New Minas for years but that bakery closed and she was left considering her options – which lead her to the NS Works office in Windsor. She looked at finding a job in the food service sector but decided that she could turn her passion and experience into her own bakery / café / international grocery location in Hantsport.

With help from her case manager at NS Works and the business counsellors at Hants Kings CBDC, she was able to access the financial support and training available through the provincially funded Self Employment Benefits program.

Later, when she needed to hire an additional baker, she returned to the NS Works Centre to get help learning about wage subsidies and help to promote her job opening.

What services from Community INC’s NS Works staff helped her get there?

  • Support to apply to the Self Employment Benefit program
  • Accessed the services of the Employer Employer Engagement Specialist to learn about wage subsidies
  • Received assistance to recruit staff for her new bakery

Today, Kate is the proud owner of the Essentially English Bakery in Hantsport, an incredibly popular destination for tourists and residents alike.
