JOB SUCCESS COORDINATOR - Early Intervention Pilot for Youth

Community INC and The Portal are partnering on an exciting 12 month pilot program that will offer up to 50 youth an interactive experiential program to develop life management, leadership, job readiness and job search success training to develop skills to connect with and maintain employment.

 Community INC will be hiring a Job Success Coordinator (Incorporating Job Developer / Job Coach / Employment Maintenance functions) to join a talented, proactive and responsive team to work together to develop and deliver a variety of programming and services – that collectively will offer a connected and motivating circle of emotional and practical support.

 All successful applicants need to want to be a part of increasing opportunities for youth, have an understanding of the issues facing youth, and understand the social and business case for inclusion and diversity. Additionally all applicants will need to have a clean criminal record, demonstrate excellent collaboration and conflict resolution skills, strong computer skills, understanding of employability skills and must be able to work outside of the normal working hours for special events.

 We will be hiring for the following positions:

 Job Success Coordinator (37.5 hours per week)


The Job Success Coordinator will connect pre-employment and employment-ready youth to a variety of unpaid, subsidized and paid employment experiences based on skills and abilities of the youth and matched with supportive employers who need those skills and who would be interested in the development of the employment skills of our area’s youth. The Job Success Coordinator will provide on the job support to both the youth and the employer inclusive of job coaching and check ins. The Job Success Coordinator will also co-facilitate workshops on topics related to job search and job success.


 Mandatory Requirements:

 2 years experience in the field of employment related services, social services or business related fields – this can be combined in the areas of paid employment, volunteer and applicable training

  • Post-secondary education in a social services or business related field or an acceptable combination of experience and training.
  • Experience working with a diverse client base, in particular marginalized populations
  • A clean criminal record check
  • Flexibility in schedule to accommodate evening networking opportunities and early morning event set ups, as required.

 Skills Required:

  • Above average interpersonal and judgment skills
  • Strong and effective communication skills – verbal and written
  • Ability to balance the needs of job seekers with the needs of employers to create a job match for the success of both
  • Awareness of barriers to employment; individual and societal
  • Experience working with persons from diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge of programming available through Employment Nova Scotia
  • Accurate record keeping practices
  • Workshop preparation and facilitation experience
  • Excellent time management skills
  • A commitment to life-long learning
  • Solid understanding of Labour Market Information and its applications.
  • Good knowledge of local employers, community organizations, service providers, and referral agencies.
  • Knowledge of effective job search strategies and the ability to sell / package ideas.      
  • Professional presentation.
  • Strong computer skills, with the ability to  work in a computerized environment using MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook programs and the LaMPSS database.

BOOKKEEPER - Early Intervention Pilot for Youth (Part Time Hours)

The bookkeeper will work 10 hours a week on this project and will also work 4 hours a week for the Portal. The bookkeeper will complete payroll, process payments, maintain accurate records in Simply Accounting, update the project cashflow, and maintain a record of supplies and assets.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in business or business administration with a concentration in accounting
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a bookkeeping role, preferably in a not for profit environment
  • A clean criminal record check, bondable
  • Experience working with a diverse client base, in particular marginalized populations
  • Proficient in the use of Simply Accounting

Skills Required:

  • Above average interpersonal and judgment skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Highly organized
  • Excellent math skills
  • Strong and effective communication skills – verbal and written
  • Experienced and skilled in the use of Simply Accounting and Excel
  • LaMPSS experience preferred
